On the microstructural evolution in 12% Cr turbine steel during low cycle fatigue at elevated temperature
TypeArticles dans des revues avec comité de lecture
In order to better understand the physical process of deformation and cyclic softening a 12% Cr martensitic stainless steel FV566 has been cyclically tested at high temperature in strain control. Increase in temperature was found to increase the cyclic life, softening rate and viscous stress magnitude. An increase in the dwell time led to the acceleration of the material degradation. The microstructure changes and dominating deformation mechanisms were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results have revealed a gradual sub-grain coarsening, transformation of lath structure into fine equiaxed subgrains, and misorientation angle development in blocks and packets until material failure. The softening behaviour was attributed to the mutual annihilation of the dislocations and rearrangement of the residual dislocation in the low energy structures.

Characterization of cyclic behavior, deformation mechanisms, and microstructural evolution of MarBN steels under high temperature conditions BENAARBIA, Adil; XU, Xu; SUN, Wei; BECKER, Adib; OSGERBY, Steve (Elsevier, 2019)In this paper, the low cycle fatigue behaviour of MarBN steels at elevated temperatures is discussed. Four cyclic loading waveforms were applied to investigate both the mechanical and microstructural features. The mechanical ...
Experimental characterisation and computational modelling of cyclic viscoplastic behaviour of turbine steel RAE, Yaroslav; BENAARBIA, Adil; HUGUES, Jeremy; SUN, Wei (Elsevier BV, 2019)Fully reversed strain controlled low cycle fatigue and creep-fatigue interaction tests have been performed at ±0.7% strain amplitude and at three different temperatures (400°C, 500°C and 600°C) to investigate the cyclic ...
CHATZIGEORGIOU, George; BENAARBIA, Adil; MERAGHNI, Fodil (Elsevier, 2019)A unified micromechanical approach is proposed to evaluate the electro-magneto-mechanical response of coated long fiber composites with transversely isotropic piezoelectric-piezomagnetic behaviour. The developed framework ...
A fully coupled thermo-viscoelastic-viscoplastic-damage framework to study the cyclic variability of the Taylor-Quinney coefficient for semi-crystalline polymers BENAARBIA, Adil; CHATZIGEORGIOU, George; KIEFER, Bjoern; MERAGHNI, Fodil (Elsevier BV, 2019)In the present work, a rigorous and consistent thermo-viscoelastic-viscoplastic ductile damage model is proposed to address the variability of the Taylor-Quinney coefficient (the storage to anelastic energy rate ratio) ...
Multiscale modeling accounting for inelastic mechanisms of fuzzy fiber composites with straight or wavy carbon nanotubes CHATZIGEORGIOU, George; MERAGHNI, Fodil; CHARALAMBAKIS, Nicolas; BENAARBIA, Adil (Elsevier BV, 2020)This paper proposes a micromechanical approach aimed at identifying the response of unidirectional fuzzy fiber composites undergoing inelastic fields. Fuzzy fibers are reinforcement fibers coated with radially aligned ...
