Integration of end-of-life options as a design criterion in methods and tools for ecodesign
TypeCommunications avec actes
Ecodesigning a product consists (amongst other things) in assessing what its environmental impacts will be throughout its life (that is to say from its design phase to its end of life), in order to limit them. Some tools and methods exist to (eco)design a product, just like methods that assess its environmental impacts (more often, a posteriori). But it is now well accepted that these are the early design decisions that will initiate the greatest consequences on the product’s end-of-life options and their impacts. Thus, the present work aims at analysing traditional design tools, so as to integrate end-of-life possibilities in the form of recommendations for the design step. This proposal will be illustrated by means of a wind turbine design.

Integration of end-user needs into building design projects: use of boundary objects to overcome participatory design challenges LATORTUE, Xavier; MINEL, Stephanie; POMPIDOU, Stéphane; PERRY, Nicolas (Design Science, 2015)Participatory design is perceived as a way of improvement in both manufactured and building design. Nonetheless high level of user involvement has its limits. Part of the difficulties of the participatory design is due to ...
Development of a design for end-of-life approach in a strongly guided design process. Application to high-tech products. BALANCA, Florian; LEMAGNEN, Maud; POMPIDOU, Stéphane; PERRY, Nicolas (2014)In response to a growing concern for environmental problems and to waste management from mass production products, several regulations have appeared to tackle end-of-life (EoL) issues. They address for instance end-of-life ...
