Investigation of tool geometry effect and penetration strategies on cutting forces during thread milling
Article dans une revue avec comité de lecture
The application of thread milling is increasing in industry because of its inherent advantages over other thread cutting techniques. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of milling cutter tool geometry on cutting forces during thread milling. The proposed method can compare the performance of milling cutters in spite of the different number of tooth. The best thread milling cutter among the studied tools was determined from the cutting forces point of view. Furthermore, this study also pinpoints the best penetration strategy that provides minimum cutting forces. Lower cutting force variations will lead to fewer vibrations of the tool which in turn will produce accurate part.

A generalised geometrical model of turning operations for cutting force modelling using edge discretisation Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureCAMPOCASSO, Sébastien; COSTES, Jean-Philippe; FROMENTIN, Guillaume; BISSEY BRETON, Stéphanie; POULACHON, Gérard (Elsevier, 2015)The knowledge of cutting forces is of prime importance to ensure the success of cutting operations, the desired properties of the machined parts and therefore the functionality of the workpieces. Edge discretisation is one ...
Process Mechanics and Surface Integrity Induced by Dry and Cryogenic Machining of AZ31B-O Magnesium Alloy Communication avec acteOUTEIRO, José; ROSSI, Frédéric; FROMENTIN, Guillaume; POULACHON, Gérard; GERMAIN, Guénaël; BATISTA, Antonio (Elsevier, 2013)The corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys depends mainly on its surface integrity. Previous experimental studies have shown that machining can induces small (nano-scale) grain size, compressive residual stresses and ...

Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureFROMENTIN, Guillaume; POULACHON, Gérard (Springer Verlag, 2010)Thread milling is a method which is increasingly used for machining thread. For this operation, a helical interpolation is required. Furthermore, the thread mill is a tool whose geometry is rather complex. Its envelope ...
