This issue of Fatigue and Fracture Engineering Materials and Structures international journal presents a selection of some extended version of papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Very High Cycle Fatigue. This is very interesting research topic of fatigue rises notably in the last two decades. With growing concerns of fatigue life requirement of many components well beyond 1E7 load cycles, the study on a variety of aspects of very high cycle fatigue, especially Advancements in VHCF instrumentations, Advanced Materials, Influence of Environment and Temperature, Influence of Small Scale Damages, Effect of Microstructure on Crack Initiation Mechanism, Life Prediction, Statistical Analysis and Modeling in Fatigue, attracted permanent attention of scientists and designers during this VHCF conference.

Thermal effect of plastic dissipation at the crack tip on the stress intensity factor under cyclic loading RANC, Nicolas; PALIN-LUC, Thierry; PARIS, Paul C. (Elsevier, 2011)Plastic dissipation at the crack tip under cyclic loading is responsible for the creation of an heterogeneous temperature field around the crack tip. A thermomechanical model is proposed in this paper for the theoretical ...
Residual stresses in surface induction hardening of steels: Comparison between experiment and simulation COUPARD, Dominique; PALIN-LUC, Thierry; BRISTIEL, Philippe; JI, Vincent; DUMAS, Christian (Elsevier, 2008)Deep induction hardening has been performed on two batches of smooth cylindrical specimens with a hardening depth respectively around 2 mm and 3 mm. The distributions of axial and circumferential residual stresses are ...
KAROLCZUK, Aleksander; PALIN-LUC, Thierry (PMTS, 2013)In the present paper, a new approach is developed in order to take into account the stress gradient effect on fatigue life of structural components. The proposed approach is based on the weakest link concept in which the ...
Overload effects on a ferritic-baintic steel and a cast aluminium alloy: two very different behaviours SAINTIER, Nicolas; PALIN-LUC, Thierry; EL DSOKI, C.; BIDOUARD, Hadrien; KAUFMANN, Heinz; DUMAS, C.; VÖLLMECKE, F.J.; SONSINO, Cetin Morris (Wiley, 2011)Load controlled fatigue tests were performed up to 107 cycles on flat notched specimens (Kt =2.5) under constant amplitude and variable amplitude loadings with and without periodical overloads. Two materials are studied: ...
PARIS, Paul C.; PALIN-LUC, Thierry (Elsevier, 2009)Crack stability is discussed as affected by their presence in statically-indeterminate beams, frames, rings, etc. loaded into the plastic range. The stability of a crack in a section, which has become plastic, is analyzed ...
