MODELLING OF STRESS GRADIENT EFFECT ON FATIGUE LIFE USING WEIBULL BASED DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION
Article dans une revue avec comité de lecture
In the present paper, a new approach is developed in order to take into account the stress gradient effect on fatigue life of structural components. The proposed approach is based on the weakest link concept in which the shape coefficient of the Weibull distribution becomes a function of a local damage parameter. The function simulates the experimentally observed relationship between the shape of the fatigue life distribution and the stress level. Such an approach allows one to calculate the global probability distribution of the fatigue life for notched structural components in a wide range of fatigue life regime: 104-107 cycles typically. For comparison purposes, the approach is applied to calculate the number of cycles to crack initiation of structural elements under three probability levels: 5%, 63% and 95%. The calculated lifetimes are compared with the lifetimes obtained from experiments performed on notched cruciform specimens and notched round specimens subjected to constant amplitude loading.

Statistical study of the size and spatial distribution of defects in a cast aluminium alloy for the low fatigue life assessment Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureWILSON, Pablo; SAINTIER, Nicolas; PALIN-LUC, Thierry; SUDRET, Bruno; BERGAMO, Sebastien (Elsevier BV, 2023-01)Cast aluminium alloys, and more widely cast materials, are frequently used in industry. The casting process allows for complex geometries of parts, but, on the downside, often causes materials voids. It is well known these ...
Internal fatigue crack monitoring during ultrasonic fatigue test using temperature measurements and tomography Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureRANC, Nicolas; MESSAGER, Alexandre; JUNET, A.; PALIN-LUC, Thierry; BUFFIÈRE, J.Y.; SAINTIER, Nicolas; ELMAY, Wafa; MANCINI, L.; KING, A.; NADOT, Yves (Elsevier, 2022-09)Very high cycle fatigue fracture is often associated with internal crack propagation and one major problem to study the initiation and the propagation of this internal crack is to detect its initiation and quantify its ...
About the heat sources generated during fatigue crack growth: What consequences on the stress intensity factor? Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureBOUSSATTINE, Zaid; RANC, Nicolas; PALIN-LUC, Thierry (Elsevier, 2020)During cyclic loading of a cracked metallic alloy at room temperature, heat sources are generated and produce a heterogeneous temperature field around the crack tip. Those heat sources are: (i) the thermo-elastic coupling ...
