Characterization of mouth-formed mouthguards: Thermal performance
Article dans une revue avec comité de lecture
This study examined whether the thermo-modeling process suits the thermal properties of the material constituting mouthformed mouthguards (MGs). Five mouth-formed MGs were compared: four commercially available MGs (SDITM, Gel NanoTM, Opro Shield GoldTM, and Kipsta R300TM) and one prototype. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to determine melting (Tm) and crystallization (Tc) temperatures and specifi fusion and crystallization enthalpies (∆Hf and ∆Hc (J/g)). MGs were modeled with recording of vestibular flnge and occlusal cushion temperatures (Toccl). Tm ranged from 45.3°C to 53.0°C and Tc ranged from 40.9°C to 48.2°C. Specifi heat of fusion ranged from 40.2 J/g to 62.0 J/g. Toccl was higher than Tm for all MGs except Kipsta R300TM. Guidelines provided by manufacturers may not be adapted to thermal properties of the MG material. To ensure proper thermomodeling, heating and biting durations should be adjusted.

Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureGUERARD, Sandra; BAROU, Jean-Luc; PETIT, Julien; POISSON, Philippe (Wiley, 2017)Background/Aim: It is difficult to characterize the impact behavior of mouthguards on the basis of their components. Impact behavior tests should be performed on mouthguard formed to simulate their intra-oral performance. ...
Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureVERGARI, Claudio; ROUCH, Philippe; DUBOIS, Guillaume; BONNEAU, Dominique; DUBOUSSET, Jean; TANTER, Mickael; GENNISSON, Jean-Luc; SKALLI, Wafa (2014)Patient-specific numerical simulation of the spine is a useful tool both in clinic and research. While geometrical personalization of the spine is no more an issue, thanks to recent technological advances, non-invasive ...
Non-invasive biomechanical characterization of intervertebral discs by shear wave ultrasound elastography: a feasibility study Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureVERGARI, Claudio; ROUCH, Philippe; DUBOIS, Guillaume; BONNEAU, Dominique; DUBOUSSET, Jean; TANTER, Mickael; GENNISSON, Jean-Luc (Elsevier, 2014)Objectives Although magnetic resonance is widely spread to assess qualitatively disc morphology, a simple method to determine reliably intervertebral disc status is still lacking. Shear wave elastography is a novel technique ...
Lumbar annulus fibrosus biomechanical characterization in children by ultrasound shear wave elastography Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureVERGARI, Claudio; DUBOIS, Guillaume; GENNISSON, Jean-Luc; TANTER, Mickael; DUBOUSSET, Jean; ROUCH, Philippe; SKALLI, Wafa; VIALLE, Raphaël (Elsevier, 2016)Objectives Intervertebral disc (IVD) is key to spine biomechanics, and it is often involved in the cascade leading to spinal deformities such as idiopathic scoliosis, especially during the growth spurt. Recent progress in ...
Experimental Investigation and Discrete Element Modelling of Composite Hollow Spheres Subjected to Dynamic Fracture Article dans une revue avec comité de lectureCORE, Arthur; KOPP, Jean-Benoit; VIOT, Philippe; CHARLES, Jean-Luc; DAU, Frédéric (Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2017)This paper deals with the characterization and the numerical modelling of the collapse of composite hollow spherical structures developed to absorb energy during high velocity impacts. The structure is composed of hollow ...
